Training Course is about using a sign language as a method for social inclusion of young people with sensory disabilities (youth deaf people).

The name of the association is ”The Reality of Silence”. It is a non-government organization founded to help people with hearing impairments to overcome the barriers in communication for improving the conditions of life through health, social and legal protection and security, educational and cultural activities, organizing activities for giving better quality (mental and physical) abilities of membership and working to improve all activities that will contribute better position this category of disabilities in all aspects of social life. http://www.stvarnost-tisine.op.rs/

The Project

Training Course is about using a sign language as a method for social inclusion of young people with sensory disabilities (youth deaf people).

The main goal of the training course “Sign by sign – hear youth voice “ is to improve the participants’ knowledge, attitudes and skills working with young people with sensory disabilities, using sign language as a method for social inclusion of youth deaf people.
Educational program will improve the quality of practice in youth work opportunities for people who work with young people with sensory disabilities.
Particular focus on this training course will be on promotion of sign language as a learning method for social inclusion of young people with sensory disabilities.
During using informal educational tools, participants will be able to reproduce skills and techniques acquired during this TC in their daily work with youth deaf people.

The main idea of this project is promotion of sign language and connection people from different countries language backgrounds with the aim of breaking up prejudices/stereotypes towards youth deaf people.
Product:
During this training course participants will create product – pocket dictionary for sign language (explanation of signs through pictures and alphabet letters).
This dictionary will be distributed after the training course in all participating countries, therefore spreading out the important message of understanding youth deaf people, tolerance towards them, their social acceptance and inclusion in everyday life activities.
Activities on our training course:
1. presentation of Youth in Action Programme and informing participants about new possibilities offered by the European Commission;
2. presentation of the European Year of Citizens
3. non-formal education and informal way of learning
4. discussions with various topics of discrimination towards young deaf people
5. activities about making and raising awareness that they are not second-class of population, but that they are equal with their youth peers
6. presentation of sign language and alphabet letters from participant countries
7. creating universal sign language and explanation using practical examples
8. creating sign chapters with different life situations and most common phrases
9. making visual idea of final product and create illustrating signs
10. presentation of final product – pocket dictionary

The target group of this training course are all people actively involved in the work with young people with fewer opportunities – youth with sensory disabilities(youth workers, youth leaders, play workers, NGO activists, school teachers, social workers…).
(For this training course we will select participants with some basic educational background in sign language)

Objectives:
1. to promote inclusion as a most significant value working with young people with fewer opportunities –youth with sensory disabilities
2. to increase participants’ knowledge of sign language as a tool for better social inclusion of young deaf people in everyday life activities
3. to overcome language barriers and empowering young people with sensory disabilities to take the initiative in active participation in the life
4. through sign language to develop learning techniques and promote culture, customs, habits of participants from other countries
5. to promote sing language in working with young people with hearing problems, who have less opportunity for a normal life
6. to increase the awareness of young people that are deaf about youth in action opportunities
7. to encourage young people with sensory disabilities to play an active role in their communities using sign language as equal part of communication

General information:

Working language: English – all participants must be able to actively communicate using English language
For this training course selected participants will have to have basic educational background in sign language

All interested Program countries and Neighboring Partner countries.

Funding: 100% for accommodation will be covered and 70% of travel cost (Apex tickets) will be reimbursed after receiving original receipts.
