Using TED speech of novelist Chimamanda Adichie: The danger of a single story as an input for intercultural learning exercises and raising awareness of participants about process of stereotyping and discrimination.
Aims of the tool
Main aim of the exercise is to increase participant’s understanding how stereotypes and prejudices are being created, what are the origins of discrimination and through discussion and sharing participants life stories to increase participants intercultural understanding.
Description of the tool
The session is starting by sharing TED speech of novelist Chimamanda Adichie: The danger of a single story available online. After the speech the participants are asked to write down individually their singles lives stories. When the stories are written down the participants gather together and are sharing them in a group. Sharing is following by discussion that is moderate by facilitator and provide space to reflect on stories and see the participants experiences with prejudices, stereotypes and discrimination, how prejudices and stereotypes are created and on other side by which actions, steps they can be changed.
