In October 2010, the Euro-Med Youth Platform organised a seminar in cooperation with SALTO Euro-Med RC and the Maltese. Turkish, Portuguese and Greek National Agencies. ‘Our White Sea II’, which followed on from last year’s seminar, focused on Sustainable Development within NGOs across the Euro-Mediterranean region, with the aim for organizations to build networks and collaborate on future projects.
The seminar took place at the Gillieru Hotel and brought together around 30 participants from Europe and the MEDA region. Through specific workshops and discussions, the group exchanged perceptions on Sustainable Development based on their backgrounds, shared intercultural learning and addressed the social and political issues they face in their own countries. Guest speakers from the Office of the Prime Minister, Red Cross Italy, WasteServ Malta Ltd, as well as experts Mr V Caruana from the Centre of Environment Education and Research of Malta, Ms M Teuma from the Department of Youth and Community Studies of Malta and Mr G Buttigieg who were invited to talk about Sustainable Development from their own point of view. Throughout the week, a graphic artist was also present to document and mirror of the outcomes. On the last day of the seminar, the participants shared future project ideas, resulting in around fifteen prospective projects to take place in 2011.
The next activity in the series, “Our White Sea III”, will take place in Turkey in December 2011 with the topic of “Empower Youth through NGOs.” When launched information will be found on the Euro-Med Youth Platform website: www.euromedp.org or on Facebook page: Euro-Med Youth Platform.
